I know by now you know words are important to me. Selecting just the right word, or wrong word, when writing or speaking can make a world of difference. Even the order of words or using a comma or a conversation pause can quickly turn things around.
Here are a few examples to bring a smile.
- Can February March? No, but April May!
- Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
- I ordered an egg and a chicken on Amazon. I’ll let you know.
- The past, the present, and the future walked into a bar. It was tense.
And now for the importance of the comma.
- What’s the difference between a literalist and a kleptomaniac? A literalist takes things literally. A kleptomaniac takes things, literally.
- I was walking past a farm, and a sign read: “Duck, eggs!” I thought that was an unnecessary comma. Then it hit me.
And now a few puns.
- Why did Shakespeare only write using pens? Pencils confused him. 2B or not 2B.
- Why did the introvert become an astronomer? She needed her space.
- What do you call a can opener that doesn’t work? A can’t opener
We just couldn’t escape without some dad jokes. But first, I was curious about what can get classified as a bad joke. Some of my jokes get labelled as being bad. I’d like to step up to the Dad level.
Wiki states it this way:
A dad joke is a joke, typically a pun, often presented as a one-liner or a question and answer, but less often a narrative. Generally inoffensive, dad jokes are stereotypically told with sincere humorous intent or to intentionally provoke a negative “groaning” reaction to their overly simplistic humor.
- When does a dad joke become a dad joke? When it becomes apparent.
- My dad always said I loved alphabet soup growing up. But really it was just him putting words in my mouth.
- It’s not a dad bod—it’s a father figure!
Please give this a bit of a think. What’s one of your favourite jokes that strangers will politely enjoy while old friends give it a groan? Also, consider if you are ready to slide out of your comfort zone and tell the joke in the comments below.
I’m curious about your thoughts. Please share your bit of a think in the comment section below. It will come to me for approval before posting.
My thanks to the folks at Grammarly for having fun playing with words.
